Do you have peeling paint on your house? Many times, we tend to just walk by paint that is peeling and pay it no mind. But paint is a very important part of your home. It is more than a nice color that adds curb appeal – especially if it is on the exterior of your home on wood siding and/or trim.
Paint is designed to be a “sacrificial lamb” so-to-speak. In other words, it takes the beating from the elements sunlight, rain, temperature differentials, and more) so that your siding doesn’t take the beating directly. It is the first line of defense that your home has against the elements.
So what does peeling paint mean? It means that the paint on your home has done its job, and there needs to be a new layer put on in its place. Be careful with peeling paint though. According to the EPA, a large portion of homes built before 1978 (and some afterward) have lead paint on them. So just going ahead and scraping and sanding will not do. Be sure to do your research and consult the proper professionals before taking on a painting project.
