Winter can be a cozy time. There are many opportunities for playing board games, drinking hot chocolate, and relaxing with family inside. But with the cold weather comes heating bills. How can you cut down on the heating bill a bit during the winter months?
First of all, think about what you are wearing. Do you like keeping your home warm enough to walk around in shorts and a t-shirt all winter? That is totally your choice, but you may be able to lower the temperature if you wear more cold weather-appropriate clothing. If you have a lot of hard surface floors, get some nice area rugs to throw on them. This will help hold some heat better in the rooms. During the day, open your blinds and curtains to allow the warm sun to stream in and naturally heat up the rooms. At the same time, at nighttime, cover up the windows to hold the heat in.
Think about where your furniture is placed. Is it right up against radiators or vents? Move it away some so that the warm air can circulate better. If you have any cracks or openings around doorways or windows, seal them up. Consider winterizing your windows if they are older.
